In the previous tutorial, you learned how to use Files Cabinet to display Google Drive contents. Here, you'll learn how to use the add-on to update your existing datasource and app.
Use the Files Cabinet add-on to update your datasource and app effortlessly
Let’s say you or members of your team* added (or deleted) files from your specified Files Cabinet folder (or subfolder). How will you display the updated contents to your app or website? With the Files Cabinet add-on, updating your datasource and app is quick and easy.
Automatic Hourly Updates
The hourly update feature automatically updates your files cabinet datasource every hour.
Perform Manual Updates
For instances where your newly added files need to be published immediately (and waiting for the hourly update isn't an option), you can perform a manual update on the specified directory.
1.) To update your Files Cabinet within Google Sheets, select Add-ons > Files Cabinet by Awesome Table > Start Listing.
2.) Click the Update list of files button (image below).
3.) Click the Open button to see your updated app (this will open the same app generated earlier in Step 7 in the previous tutorial).
* Note that there are now 29 files.
You’ve just learned how to use the Files Cabinet add-on to:
- display Google Drive contents and how to
- update your datasource and app with just 1 click of a button.

Hi, how do you stop automatic updates?
Hello Ana Hameedi,
You just need to follow this article. The subject is different but it is the same way to remove a trigger. A trigger is what will trigger the automatic update of Files Cabinet.
The only difference with the article is that you don't remove a dateChecker function like it's specified in the article but you have to remove the autoUpdater function (see the screenshot in my another comment). It's the function that manages the automatic update in Files Cabinet.
However, you need to remove the autoUpdate triggers every time you manually start the update if you want to disable automatic update. It is not practical but it is for the moment the only temporary solution that we have.
Of course, we will let you know when the problem will definitely be solved.
We are truly sorry for this inconvenience.
Kind regards,
Thomas
Hi
Automatic update is not working for me and I cannot see the 'Auto-Update is activated' statement.
Has this been disabled?
My auto update is also not working. Please advise. Thanks.
Jack
Hello Jack,
Could you please try to create a new Spreadsheet and see if you can reproduce this issue?
Regards,
Nicolas
Some of my data sources have disappeared after the auto-update. There were originally 3,000 rows, but now there are only 1,000 rows left. How can I solve this problem?
+) I looked at the trigger execution log to find the cause of this problem. Script terminated because execution time exceeded 6 minutes. I think the data appears to have been deleted because the script was shut down before the update of all the data was completed.
Hello DB K,
It is a known issue with automatic update and the team is working on it.

I've looked at the length of time the AutoUpdate trigger runs for compared to the manual updates. The auto updates complete way to fast and just remove most of the entries that exist in the directory.

Hi, I don't see the blue button update list of files, how to get it appear ? thank you !
Hi, for some reason, the automatic update doesn't seem to work with me.
I have tried it on 2 GoogleSheets and both time it didn't work.
On the printscreen below, you can see that despite the auto-update being activated, the last update only happened on the 6th of november, 4 days ago.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help,
Kind regards,
Laurent
